Introducing a new way to interact online with Body and Soul Yoga!

I’ve been teaching online since the early days of lockdown, originally it was on Facebook and then Zoom.  Class numbers naturally declined after lockdown when we could get together in person again but I’ve continued with zoom.  Online teaching shouldn’t replace in person classes but it is a great add on and, for some students, it may be the only way they can get to a class.

Zoom has worked well, allowing for recordings as well as live sessions.  It’s an app (application) most people quickly became familiar with in lockdown and therefore seemed to be the best one to stay with.  I’m still on Facebook, and, although I rarely go live these days, I think it’s good way to share information and interact with new and existing students.

Now I’m excited to be using a new app (application) called Skool.  It provides a single place to teach live classes, store on demand recordings and share information and interact.  For a trial period leading up to Christmas ALL my live online classes will be on Skool (not zoom).  Everything in my Skool community is FREE for everyone who joins my community to use.  All I ask is that you participate by joining lives, using the recordings, interacting on the community page and giving me constructive feedback.  If all goes well with Skool I’m hoping to continue with it next year when I may add paid sections to the community.  However, there will always be free content as well.

How to join Skool

You can get to my community by using the link on my website (also here below):

You will need to create a password and upload a photo (any photo of anything will do).  It is a good idea to get the app on your device but it’s not essential.  You can continue to use the website link to go straight to Skool if that’s easier for you.

There are hundreds of other communities on Skool (some free like mine, others you have to set up payment subscriptions for).  You can explore and join any that interest you OR just stay with the Body and Soul Yoga community.  All the communities are run within the Skool rules and kept as safe spaces for you to use.  You are expected to follow community rules by being respectful etc and anyone violating that will be removed.

How to join live classes

Click on the Calendar tab to see what’s scheduled and just click on the class at or just after the start time.

How to use on demand recordings

Click on the Classroom tab to find a growing library of resources including recordings to use whenever you want.

How to chat

You can type questions and interact on the Community tab which appears when you enter the community.

It’s early days (a bit like it was in lockdown) and we’re learning together.  I will do my best to answer any questions you have about Skool.  You can email me privately: mary@bodyandsoulyoga.org with feedback, questions and concerns.   Although I’m taking a break from the Sunday morning class, I’m still teaching in person at various venues during the week.  If you want to meet me outside class time, join me on Monday 2.00pm onwards in the Queens Theatre Café OR Wednesday 12.30pm onwards in the Ingrebourne Visitor Centre, Hornchurch Country Park.

SKOOL TIMETABLE

I’m offering a variety of sessions to see what works and what doesn’t.  I’m open to suggestions for more and different types of sessions.  Please let me know what you want and I’ll do my best to add them.

At present these are the sessions:

Monday

Early Morning Energiser 7.30 to 8.15am

Join when you can and leave early if you need to.  No need to get dressed up or even turn on your camera so you can fall out of bed and into the class!  This is usually a high energy, fun mat based class – not suitable for beginners or anyone with mobility issues.  Think stretches and Vinyasa flow.

Evening Energiser 6.00 to 6.45pm

Similar to the Morning Energiser but in the evening!

Tuesday

Healthy Spine 6.00 to 7.00pm

Mat based class designed focusing on back health.  It is suitable for most people including beginners and anyone returning to exercise after experiencing back issues.  It is based on the Dru Backcare Programme and students are encouraged to trust their body and enjoy moving safely while listening to their bodies.

ChitChat 7.30 to 8.00pm

A short social time – no yoga unless you want it, just chat!  We can talk about yoga or anything else (within reason!).

Wednesday

Seated to Standing 6.00 to 7.00pm

The ideal class for anyone who, for whatever reason, prefers not to get up or down from the mat.  The class starts seated (you will need to have a dining type chair ready) and moves to standing sequences.  It is suitable for all ages and abilities.  There are challenges for those who want them but no need to get down on the mat.

Evening Energiser 7.30 to 8.15pm

Another energising vinyasa style class for those who want something faster.  Expect Sun Salutations etc so not for beginners.

Thursday

Early Morning Energiser 7.30 to 8.00am

A shorter energising session to start the day.

Friday

Gentle Stretch and Yoga Nidra 6.00 to 7.00pm

A class of two halves.  You can join for the whole class or just the part you want to do.  We start with gentle stretches and yin type holds followed by 20 minutes of complete relaxation (Yoga Nidra translates as yoga sleep) which is the perfect way to start the weekend.  Practised regularly Yoga Nidra can be transformational.

Book Chat 7.30 to 8.30pm

I will be introducing yoga and wellbeing books for us to discuss.  You are welcome to bring your own recommendations.  It’s a very informal session, no yoga, just talking!
